Midori Samson (she/her) is a bassoonist, educator, activist, and scholar. Thanks to a wide range of professional experiences across the USA and abroad, she has pursued a well-rounded career that unites these four identities. She couldn’t—and wouldn’t want to—seek success in any one of these areas without the other three. Nonetheless, more of her activities in each are described at the links below.

About the logo: Teaching graphic notation is a staple in Midori’s music lesson plan repertoire. She has found through her work with Trade Winds Ensemble that inviting children to compose using shapes and lines like these creates equity, accessibility, and playfulness in classrooms. The words, “I am • I can • I will” are excerpts from another lesson plan staple, “I am” Poems. This is a poetry activity she has facilitated with children all over the world. This poem template invites children to fill in the blanks, giving them guidelines to shape their creativity, yet freedom to express their unique voice.
